Heading north on the White Mountain Branch

Arriving in Concord at 0730 myself, Jessie, Gordan, Brian, and Dan set on at the Delta Drive crossing. Hooking up my gas tank, and cranking the engine for the first time in 3 months, the Woodings fired to life, and ran at a smooth idle. The morning air was crisp, however as the day went on, the spring sun quickly warmed the air up to about 75 degrees.

Heading north we cut several trees that had been blown down from last weeks storm, and inspected the culverts. The past weeks flood waters had receeded, allowing us to get a good visual inspection of them. We observed a few that will need to be looked at, and one where it created a dip in the track, but nothing that could disrupt service or be a hazard.

Cleaning out the dirt crossings as we headed north we did not run into any additional problems and were able to make good time to Sargent St in Northfield. Speaking with the Hobo Railroad, Gordan was able to get us a Form D all the way to the draw bridge at Lakeport. We may have been able to go farther, but the Hobo MOW crew was working on a washout just north of the draw. The Hobo MOW crew had set on with their hy-rails at Sargent St, so we knew it would be smooth sailing.

We worked our way north, through the Caboose train village, and over the swolen Winnipesaukee river into Tilton. Gordan flagged the crossings as we rolled into the business district of Tilton around noon, stopping at the Tilt'n Diner for lunch.

Pulling up to Paugus Bay around 1400hrs, we approached the end of our limits at the Lakeport Draw. A glance into the Lakeport Yard afforded a view of the former Milford Bennington caboose that had been purchased on eBay over the winter, awaiting a ride north for refubishing by the Hobo. We turned our cars, and then headed back towards Concord. When we arrived in Northfield we found a subj walking down the center of the tracks, Brian in the lead with his MEC car laid on his airhorn, however the subj had headphones on and could not hear the horn. Finally the subj was able to hear the horn as we got closer, and he got off the ROW. I did not have my air tank hooked up yet, but would have liked to see the 196db get the guys attention.
