Having not been out in a while I decided to take the car out to the Ossipee line to do some brush cutting and any other work along the line.
When I showed up in Center Ossipee Dave Towle was working on the northern section in town with the clubs tractor. We began working on the trench along the tracks to improve water flow and began cutting banks back to make the ROW larger and more maintained. He is also a member of the Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club and operates their groomer, so the ROW is being widened to about 15' to make grooming easier. About a couple hours into working the tractor began to make a high pitch whine and we decided to call it quits until we could get the tractor dealer to come down and take a look at it. I put on at Mountain View, with the plan of running south to cut back the brush along Archers marsh and any other work, and to then head north to Rt. 16 to do any needed work along that section of the line. As I reached Archers Marsh I saw that there was little for me to do, as Dave and the Snowmobile club had come down earlier in the week and put the sickle bar on the tractor. They cut from Rt. 16 all the way to the end of track at the Rt. 28 over pass, and man that 15' cleared ROW looks damn sweet. The ROW now looks like it is very well maintained, and there are no obstructions for trackcars. The cut brush also helped alot with sight lines for the ATV and road crossings. Not needing to do any work there, I continued south, cutting several trees that were hanging low into the ROW. The new chain on the saw made quick work of the several hardwoods. I turned my car at the end of track just under Rt. 28, and then my day just fell down hill. I attempted to start my car, only to hear the starter spinning. I moved the car a few feet by hand, tried again, and it started. Now heading north, I stopped to inspect a whistle post that had been uncovered with the cutting of the brush. Not stopping the car I left it idle while I checked the post. I guess I left the throttle a tad too low, and the engine stalled. Attempting to start the car again, I got nothing. The starter would not catch, and then finally it just DIED. I was pretty much stuck in the middle of no where. I was about a 1/4 mile from the end of track, but I still had my truck parked 5 miles away, and I had no one to pick me up to bring me to the truck. Well....we'll leave it at this... It was a VERY long and tiring walk pushing the speeder 5 miles back to Mountainview station. I "rolled" into town just after sunset, loaded the speeder on the trailer, and left for home, my car out of service. {jgtabber}[tab ==Photos From The Ride ==]{jgxtimg src:=[images/cvrtc/IMG_0575.jpg] width:=[100] height:=[100]} {jgxtimg src:=[images/cvrtc/IMG_0576.jpg] width:=[100] height:=[100]} {jgxtimg src:=[images/cvrtc/IMG_0578.jpg] width:=[100] height:=[100]}[/tab]{/jgtabber} |
