On Tueday I met "Tiny" in North Conway where we picked up our permits for our trip though the Notch. Tiny, Gene and I set on at Bartlett and began our trip to the Notch. The weather was a cool 57 degrees and the sun helped bring out the remaining color in the mountains. As we rounded the Gateway the clouds began to move in and the the air got colder. After lunch at Faybans we proceeded back to Crawfords where we followed train 162 at 1400 hours.
It was a great ride, and the first long mileage trip I had taken in my car. We did about 38 miles round trip. I wish I had been able to take pictures, but I forgot my camera and couldn't find a gas station that had one of those throw away ones. The trip brought out some demons in my car....mainly the lighting, which around Notchland decided to quit on me because of a crossed wire and a bad ground. Also the gas tank I had repaired worked out well...except that the fuel filler neck now needs to be replaced, because it leaks like a sieve when the tank is filled to the point where gas sits in it. Gene had replaced it on his Woodings also from a NAPA part. So in the next week or so I will be replacing the neck, and completely rewiring the entire car. |
